“One Day in December”

JOE: At ten in the morning on Christmas Eve
At the corner of Lincoln and LaFlore,
We’ll assemble at last for the Grand Parade
In the lot by the True Value hardware store.

One day in December, one magical day,
That’s when all the make-believe comes true.
When the people pause to see Santa Claus
    Riding by on Engine Seven.
Yelling ‘Ho! Ho! Ho!’ to the folks below
May not sound like much, but to me that’s heaven.
One day in December, when things are okay,
One day that you just can’t overdo,
When I can be Santa Claus too.

JUDY: We could sip mugs of cocoa by the lagoon,

JOE: Then we could skate all afternoon.

JUDY: Later on we’d go out walking under the moon.

JOE: We might get home pretty late.

JUDY: All right, Saint Nick: it’s a date.

BOTH: One day in December, when things are okay,
One day for a love long overdue.

JOE: When I can be . . .

JUDY: When you can be

BOTH: Santa Claus too.
