A LONGSTANDING PARTNERSHIP IN MUSICAL THEATER

Two Minds.
One Musical Vision.

Doug Voegtle and Steve Delchamps began collaborating in 2004 as members of the Musical Theater Writers’ Workshop at Theatre Building Chicago under the mentorship of founder John Sparks (a graduate of the BMI workshop led by the legendary Lehman Engel). In the workshop, Steve and Doug created Opening Day, an adaptation of the award-winning play Strange Snow by Stephen Metcalfe.

Opening Day was first produced in staged-reading form in 2007 directed by Josh Penzell. A revised version was mounted in 2009 under the direction of Elizabeth Margolius as part of Stages, a series of promising new musical works.

Steve and Doug have shared book writing responsibilities in the past, but today Steve prefers lyrics while Doug sticks to music. Their sweet spot is creating adaptations of original plays, films, books, and short stories.

Currently, Steve and Doug are planning a 2025 production of Opera Cat, based on the award-winning children’s book of the same title by Tess Weaver, with illustrations by Andrea Wesson.

Steve and Doug are two of the most effective and determined writers from my Chicago workshop at Theatre Building Chicago. I spent over a decade watching them as they worked and can attest to their talent and drive. I’m hoping to produce something new by Delchamps and Voegtle one day soon under the banner of my newest company, Write4Art Productions in Hollywood.
