SYNOPSIS

No one knows that Alma the cat can sing opera. Then one day, Alma’s owner loses her voice.

And the metaphoric “cat” gets out of the bag.

Alma the cat lives in Milan, Italy with Madame Soso, an opera singer. Over time, by listening carefully to Madame Soso's rehearsals, Alma has developed an amazing secret talent: she can sing opera!

Though Alma longs to sing openly with Madame Soso, it takes the encouragement of Americano—a wandering cat from Chicago—to convince Alma to at last reveal her musical secret.

When Madame Soso loses her voice only hours before her big performance at La Scala, Alma steps out from behind the apartment curtains, and sings.

Amazed by Alma's gift, Madame Soso concocts a strategy that will allow her to perform onstage at La Scala, while Alma provides the singing.

Will Alma and Madame Soso be able to pull off the plan?

Steve and Doug had the brilliant idea to bring the adorable children’s book Opera Cat to the stage, and their musical version does not disappoint. Even in its early stages, the book and lyrics had heart and humor and all the things that made me fall in love with musical theatre as a child. The song “Puoi Farlo” is a highlight for me
